A Diatribe for Wildness

It is not enough! This life we are being sold is simply not enough!

Listen, a Man is not meant to be safe and secure. He is not meant to languish waiting for a break. He is not meant to drag his ass through the day feeling tired, weary, and worn. He is not meant to work so hard that he is too tired at the end of the day for anything except mind-numbing television. A Man is not meant to dwell on sadness, insecurity or confusion. And yet this is what we are told is “life,” to be accepted; everyone is a little depressed, nobody really knows what to do. “it is just the way the world is!” “Everyone is a little lonely.”

I call foul! You are being robbed!

Listen, a Man is created to be heroic and passionate. He is meant to chase the white stag, hunt for the holy grail, fight dragons, and build empires. He is meant to be putting something new into the world. He is meant to wake up in the morning with challenges in front of him, the energy and desire to conquer them, and when he has conquered them, enough left over to celebrate his victories with his friends of family with joy.

And what we are told by the same voices is “but not everyone can do that.” “We can’t all chase our dreams.” “Somebody has to sweep the street.” Maybe. But you are not the one who has to accept mediocrity. Your life is precious, rare, and short, don’t waste it on mediocrity. Every minute spent on sadness is a minute stolen from joy.

Don’t listen to the voices who mope about “How Things Are.” They don’t need to be any such thing. You can design and build a life full of joy, courage, adventure, innovation, and eroticism. All you need to do is make a choice to stop listening and start chasing, start building, start creating.

Declare war on “Just the way It is.”
